P.S. Thanks to everybody who sent emails to the Mayor of Seattle.
All charges against the Seattle Organizers have been dropped.
Currently the way things look is that there are no laws in the
United States strong enough to block this event in court.

Congratulations to all,

What a huge success !!!!!!!!!!!!.
The World Naked Bike Ride is clearly becoming the greatest, funnest, wildest and most enjoyable event of the year.
There is nothing indecent about happy, naked, smiling cyclists spreading contagious smiles and giggles across this worlds many lands. The simplicity of the bicycle and health that it brings outshines the indecent exposure of horrible pollution spewing, ecology munching, community crushing cars.

Even though the ride has become an expected and celebrated event around the world there were unfortunately two arrests this year in Austin as well as a few tickets issued in Madison. We will keep folks posted on developments.

News and summaries:

1. News about arrests.
2. News about tickets
3. Please update your WIKI's
4. News and footage from around the world

1. News about arrests

The Austin ride went fairly well, as far as I know. Out of ~200 people, only two were arrested that I know of, including myself. It happened because we stopped the bike ride for too long at the State Capitol building because someone had wrecked and was hurt. I took too long to put my underwear back on and when state troopers approached the group, everyone scrambled, but they detained me before I could make my escape.

I was covered up when they detained me, but they said they had witnessed me naked (which was true) and had me on camera, so I cooperated with them and identified myself. I figured they would just run my name for warrants and perhaps ticket me. They ended up arresting me for "Public lewdness" which is apparently a class A misdemeanor (pretty serious). I was really worried as I waited in jail, thinking they might throw the book at me. They held us for 24 hours then released us, downgrading the charges to a Class C misdemeanor "Disorderly Conduct - Indecent Exposure". I'll have to go to court and pay a fine, or perhaps I can argue out of it. If I'm guilty, I should at least get credit for time served.

In the end, it could have been much worse. Texas is a overwhelmingly conservative and prude place and if I had done something like this in the small town where I grew up, who knows what kind of terrible crap they would have tried to prosecute me for. Thankfully, Austin is a bit more lenient on us "weirdos".
Still, I was angry that I was singled out and made an example of and would like to argue my position when I get the chance.

---James plans on fighting these charges. If you are a lawyer and would like to help or would like to make a donation towards his legal expenses send him an email at
jmwoodring@gmail.com

2. News about tickets:

A few cyclists were ticked for disorderly conduct in Madison. This is indeed probably the silliest ticket ever issued. It will be super easy to beat these tickets. There were no arrests, just a police officer who figured riding a bike naked is disorderly. The silliness never ends. If you would like to help us hire a lawyer to challenge these tickets please contact madisonnakedbikeride@yahoo.com . Lets fight these charges.
